BROWNSVILLE—Two of STPA’s robotics teams—724A and 724B—competed in the Rio Grande Valley VEX competition on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Each team built a robot, which was pitted against high school teams across the valley, to play the game, Toss Up, which involves scoring balls into elevated goals using teamwork, creative engineering, and skillful maneuvering.

Team 724A, “Argonauts” consisting of Carlos Aude, Hanxing Kuang, and Alan Babuji, won the Excellence Award, the most prestigious achievement at a VEX Robotics competition, with their robot, “Argo”. Argonauts have qualified for the South Texas Regionals on February 22nd in Houston and the U.S. Open Robotics Competition in Omaha, Nebraska along with BETA, Veterans Memorial High School, and Brownsville Early College High School.

Team 724B, the only other middle school team in the competition, consisting of Joshua Lamsis, Marco Fleming, and Diego Mendez was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
